What Does the First Aid at Work Course Cover?
This 3-day course encompasses all the content of the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work course, along with an extensive range of additional skills.
Our training ensures that learners can understand and apply the following skills when assisting an adult in the workplace:
- Unresponsive and Breathing: How to manage an unresponsive person who is breathing.
- Unresponsive and Not Breathing: How to manage an unresponsive person who is not breathing, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Choking: Techniques to assist someone who is choking.
- Bleeding: Management of bleeding, including life-threatening bleeding and the use of haemostatic dressings and tourniquets.
- Shock and Internal Bleeding: How to recognize and treat shock and internal bleeding.
- Burns: Treatment of various types of burns.
- Fainting: Steps to take when someone feels faint.
- Poisoning: How to handle poisoning incidents.
- Head Injuries: Management of head injuries.
- Hypothermia and Heat Exhaustion: How to deal with temperature-related conditions.
- Bone, Muscle, and Joint Injuries: Treatment of injuries, including spinal injuries.

Learning and Assessment
Assessment Method: Learners are continuously evaluated throughout the course via hands-on demonstrations, interactive Q&A sessions, quizzes, and engaging activities such as role-play. These methods ensure that learners can safely apply their knowledge in the workplace.
Certification Validity: Upon successful completion of the course, learners will receive a First Aid at Work certificate from the British Red Cross, valid for three years.
Course Duration: The HSE requires learners to complete 18 hours of instruction, excluding breaks. Our courses typically run from 9:15 AM to 4:45 PM, including a 1-hour lunch break and two 15-minute breaks. Learners should arrive by 9:00 AM for registration; late arrivals may be refused entry.
Entry Requirements
The role of a first aider can be physically and emotionally demanding. It’s crucial to select individuals who can act quickly and effectively in emergencies. Learners must demonstrate their ability to use the skills covered in the course to earn the qualification. This course is suitable for learners aged 16 and over.
